(Quick plot breakdown:)
Hell's Paradise follows Gabimaru the Hollow, a death-row ninja seeking a pardon, who is sent to a mysterious, supernatural island to retrieve the legendary Elixir of Life for the shogun. In the Edo period of Japan, a group of death-row convicts are offered a pardon by the Shogun in exchange for retrieving the Elixir of Life from a newly discovered, mysterious island. The island is a dangerous place filled with monsters and other supernatural threats, as one of the first explorers returned with his body transformed into flowers. The island is a treacherous, beautiful, yet lethal environment, filled with unique flora, dangerous creatures, and immortal beings known as the Tensen. Each convict is paired with an executioner, a professional samurai assigned to ensure the convict completes the mission or to kill them if they fail.
Gabimaru is accompanied by Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, a professional executioner assigned to ensure his mission is completed, to find and bring back the Elixir of Life, a substance said to grant immortality, from the island of Shinsenkyo. Gabimaru and a squad of other convicts, each with their own executioner, must fight monstrous creatures and navigate the island's deadly secrets, while also contending with each other, for a chance at freedom and eternal life. To succeed, the convicts and their executioners must work together, fighting against the island's monstrous inhabitants and the dangerous environment itself. The story is similar to a "suicide squad" mission, where a group of criminals are sent on a dangerous, near-impossible task with the hope of earning their freedom.

Role: Myth
Role Qualities/Attributes: Small yellow Oni horns with black tips that protrude from his forehead just above the eyebrow. Yellow claws with black tips like his horns. The sclera of his eyes would also turn black with a white iris. I'd also like to have him sprout some death lily flowers from his face, possibly around the corner of his eyes. As for attributes, he'll be slowly developing the ability to see in the dark and become immune to poison and gass!
Role Reasoning:
Though he is trying to become a better person for his wife, he's done too much bad, bloodied his hands, and his past is too grim to outrun. He already has some Myth traits, so adding the rest of them wouldn't feel so strange (seeing in the dark, resistance to poisons/gases). He earned the title Gabimaru the Hollow for his lack of emotion during his gruesome work he did for his village chief after they took him in as a child and trained him to become a killer. He also has the potential to rise and become a Legend, more so in this game's setting than back home. Being 'free' to a certain extent and having Thirteen see potential in him might be the push he needs to better himself.
I plan on having Gabimaru try and better himself. Trying and help others. He'll have every intention of being nice to those who are nice to him, showing kindness and consideration, and above all, trying not to kill. This is going to be a challenge, considering all he knows how to do is fight, kill, and follow orders. I want him to make friends and form bonds.
❥ Personality
Option 2. Choose FOUR-FIVE of the following questions to answer and expand upon. Each answer has a 100-300 word requirement.
Option 2 questions (4-5). 100-300 word limit each:
❥ What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?
Gabimaru's wife, the Chief's daughter Yui, is the most important person in his life. I say this because of the immense effect her love and kindness have on him. Having been gifted as a reward from the Chief himself, with the idea that she would bear children and help populate the clan with fresh blood, Gabimaru thought this was a mistake. He didn't feel like he could bond with her upon their initial meeting, but decided to try again for the sake of the clan. He was cold and distant, never showing emotion, and having lost his parents at such a young age, he never really knew love and compassion, yet that was what Yui would turn out to be in her core.
Over time, Gabi would warm up to Yui, taking heed of her requests to say thank you and be kind to people, telling him that he didn't have to murder and kill and that there were other ways he could still do his job. He didn't think this was possible at first, considering he was "Gabimaru the Hollow," A monster, a ruthless killer, and yet when she smiled at him and told him she saw him as a human, it started to change Gabi. Instead of outright killing his targets, he would knock them out or even take pity and cover for them. He lives by Yui's words and spends his whole time in canon, trying to get back home to her, trying to live the way she wanted him to. She became his reason to live, his reason not to kill, his soul's purpose. She showed him how to love and be loved and made him feel like he wasn't just a monstrous killing machine. She showed him that there was more to life than killing.
❥ If your character could change one thing about their past, what would it be and why? Or why not?
Knowing what he knows now and having gone through what he's currently experiencing, I believe that Gabimaru wouldn't have gone to the village chief to ask for permission to release him from his status as a shinobi and live a normal life with his married wife. This is where everything went wrong for him. This was the catalyst that ended up having him arrested and separated from his wife.
Before the Chief answered him, they tasked Gabimaru with a mission that was flawed to fail from the start. Having been set up, he was captured as a traitor and sentenced to death. This is where Gabi started to wish he could die, even though he was seemingly indestructible. He became 'hollow' once more. Having convinced himself that living a normal life would be impossible, Gabimaru loses the will to live and chooses to forget about his pleasant life with his beloved wife and accepts the death sentence for his past crimes. It's a living Hell, torture, considering no matter what is done to him, he just won't die.
If Gabi had the insight to know this would be the outcome of his humble request, he wouldn't have asked. He made the mistake of trusting his Chief to understand what he was asking, after all, Yui was the Chief's daughter, the man had a wife and family of his own. Yet, to allow this, he would have lost one of, if not his best shinobi. We see Gabi regretting this many times when he'll sigh and say something like "I just wanna be at home with my wife." It's all his fault after all, if he hadn't asked for freedom, he would have still been at home with her right now, instead of fighting for his life on a suicide mission.
❥ What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?
At the risk of repeating myself, I need to be clear that most, if not all, of Gabimaru's driving force is to do with his wife. And so that is where his safe space is. Specifically, back in their small home with her. We see moments in the anime, in flashbacks where they are just interacting in the home, usually when Gabimaru has come home from a mission and Yui is helping him to clean up or tend to any minor wounds he has. It's the only time you see Gabimaru display any real emotion on his expression, such as blushing and looking surprised, when usually he's so nonchalant and aloof.
Gabimaru doesn't feel like the Hollow when he's home with Yui, she's the only person who doesn't see him as a monster, who tells him he is human and deserves normality. He opens up in this setting, in these moments with her, talking about life and death, about love and kindness, we see him smile and even laugh, we never see him like this anywhere else. Being with her is where he lets his guard down; feeling loved makes him feel safe and he doesn't have that anywhere else in the world, apart from with Yui. So yeah, home with Yui, or more specifically, Yui herself, is Gabimaru's safe space.
❥ What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already?
Gabimaru would and does sacrifice his very soul, and then later sacrifices everything he has been trying to fix in himself, just for a chance to get back to his wife.
He had already reached his potential as a killer, as the best shinobi his clan has; selling his soul to become cold and ruthless, an apex predator and terrifyingly officiant assassin. He abandoned his conscience and any morals he might have had to become this hollow, to become the perfect weapon. Upon meeting and falling in love with Yui, he gains that all back, he starts to learn how to be kind and gentle, to be nice and thankful, and he appreciates life and how fragile and short it can be for people. Only, when he is arrested and separated from Yui he sacrifices all that hard work and becomes the monster she convinced him he wasn't. It's tragically poetic in a way; to return home to his love, Gabimaru must once more kill or be killed, he must bloody his hands and work like a peon, the hurt and pain this causes him deep down is the sacrifice he is willing to make for the one he loves.
He would sacrifice his newfound honour, his sanity, the peace of mind he had from living the way she taught him. He would sacrifice his very life if he were able to and she needed him to. The isn't anything he wouldn't do to get back to her. Kill, steal, lie, curse him, maim him, you name it.
❥ What is a time where your character failed drastically at something and how did it impact them, what did they do about it?
This one is a little complicated, so bear with me!
Gabimaru failed to die and furthermore, failed himself by subconsciously trying not to die during the attempts on his life. He had convinced himself that, after he was arrested and sentenced to death, if he couldn't be with his wife, he wanted to die. However, each execution attempt made on him failed. It was no fault of his either. Gabi didn't fight back; he stood there and took it all like a champ, but nothing seemed to kill him.
He couldn't see that it was the love he shared with Yui that was subconsciously making him feel he had a reason to live, a reason to fight back. Having had a taste of what life could be like, Gabi wanted so badly to have that again. Even if he was defeated and depressed, even though he had accepted that the crimes he had committed under the rule of his Chief were heinous, and he deserved to die because of them, his spirit was too strong, and he unknowingly fought harder than he ever had in his life, albeit subconsciously, to stay alive, for a chance he might see Yui again, somehow.

OOC opt-outs:
✅ I cannot think of any content or subjects that could come up that would trigger me, so have at it!
IC opt-outs:
❎ There are none! I am personally happy to have Gabimaru encounter and engage in all content, even topics that he personally would avoid. I do this because I would like to experience character development and have the possibility for negative CR.
Content warnings related to the character: If this were a live action movie. It would be rated R: for strong brutal violence and gore throughout, disturbing images, nudity, and some sexual content.

🟡 Lots of nudity (all genders)
🟡 Characters using sex as manipulation, part of assassinations, and for 'pacts' & 'rituals'.
🔴 Manipulation.
🔴 Death.
🔴 Very brutal, bloody, gruesome, and graphic violence.
🔴 Brutal deaths/murders/killings, heads, torsos, and body parts are ripped and sliced off, chunks of people being torn out.
🔴 Failed execution attempts. (burning alive, boiling alive, decapitation, pulled apart by bulls...)
🔴 Canibalism: One character is revealed to have killed and eaten his parents, very graphic.
🔴 Lots of decapitations throughout, headless stump(s) seen bleeding profusely.
🟢 Occasional uses of "Shit", "Damn", "Bitch", and so on.
🔴 Fairly intense, disturbing imagery throughout.
🔴 Body Horror: Creepy flowers sprout on people and turn them into inhuman flower people.
🔴 Many scary creatures and mysterious bugs.
Sensitive subjects related to the character: NOTE!: Even though these subjects are sensitive, I would be open to playing them out for the sake of negative CR and character growth.
✖️ Infedelity: He would be uncomfortable with mentions of disrespect towards monogamy or challenging his loyalty to his wife. (It happens in canon, and though he is nonchalant about it, he restrains the person.) So yeah, don't push the topic.
✖️ Killing: Ironicly... Though Gabi is an assassin, after meeting his wife, he doesn't agree with pointless murder.
✖️ Being Exiled: Again, he's nonchalant when talking about it, but questioning his loyalty to his clan is a sore topic. He was devastated when he was exiled.
